Spring Mini Sessions 2013

I have been so excited to blog about my first Spring Mini Sessions. They took place March 9th and 10th at my house in Stanley, NC. The weather could not have been more perfect. Well, we would have liked ten more degrees, but I can't complain. Two of the stages were in my garage and the third was in my back yard. I teamed up with Ingrid Griffin of Miss Daisy's Tea Parties for this weekend. She provided five bunnies that were completely perfect. One HUGE rabbit, one medium sized white bunny, and three itty-bitty babies. Most of the kids adored the bunnies and a few of them were a little nervous around them. I only had ten slots open but ended up filling twelve. I spent over an hour going through all the pictures today to pick my two favorite from each session. So, here are the "Top 24". Hope you enjoy them!

Baby Baylor

I met Kina and Brad at our new church, St. Peter's By The Lake. Kina had baby Baylor several weeks ago, and I had sent out an invitation for my upcoming Spring Mini Sessions next weekend. She responded that she wanted to do the mini session but also asked if I did newborn sessions. Now, I've always been uncomfortable with the idea of photographing newborns, because I'm by no means a "baby whisperer". When Finn was born, our photographer Jami (Jami Leigh's Photography) was amazing with him. She shushed him, patted his bottom, and rocked him and he magically fell asleep. I was in awe of how she was able to get him to fall asleep when I failed to do so on every occasion. So...  I initially just figured I'd give Kina contact info for Jami (Jami loves doing newborn sessions). Jami was glad for the business, but also said she'd let me use all her newborn "stuff" and even come mentor me during the photo shoot. Upon booking the shoot, Jami was unable to come, but I was able to use all of her baby goodies (hats, blankets, pillows, etc) and everything worked out magically.

My fear about photographing newborns subsided within about 3 minutes. Baylor was a natural. He slept so well, and when he got fussy it only took a brief feed for him to fall back into a peaceful slumber. I was able to capture a fleeting wakeful moment, and several sleepy/gassy smiles. After the session ended, I felt ridiculous for constantly giving away opportunities to do newborn sessions. I can't wait to do another. Soon. Come on people, start having babies!

I couldn't pick a few favorites for the blog, so here are all of my favorites...and then some. I don't know how I'll just pick a few for the website.

Thank you Brad and Kina for letting me use your precious Baylor as my muse. I am in love with him!
