Back to School Mini Sessions ~ August 2013

I started planning this session back in June, when school wasn't even out. I LOVE summer, but I LOVE August even more. Back to school! (Trust me, I'm over it by September) *wink, wink*

August was my favorite month as a student because it meant shopping for supplies, clothes, and my birthday. As a teacher, it was my favorite month because it meant spending my entire July paycheck on decorations for my classroom...and then getting in to my classroom to decorate with my "theme" for the year...and then charging another $1,000 to finish decorating. I think it's the excitement that's in the air that I love so much.

So, I scouted endless antique shops until I found the perfect antique school desk. And thankfully I have friends with benefits (aka props) that I was able to borrow for the rest.

I know most of these pictures were already posted as Sneak Peeks on my FB fan page, but I have selected one or two more from each session to share, so there are a few new ones. Here ya go:

THE BASSES

GEORGIA

FINN

THE CLEMENTSES

CARALYNN

THE HULLETTES

THE ROBERSONS

THE SIGMONS

THE STANTONS

^Her mom is a librarian, and that was her goal for this
picture, to look like a librarian. Love.

Some photo sessions I think may not be something to continue year after year, but this is a definite. I had so much fun!

The Besses. Part...3?

Rainiest day on record this summer. Of course there was a patch of blue sky right over the shoot location and after about 20 minutes of waiting it out, it cleared up just enough to do the session. Thank. Goodness!

You may recognize Caroline and Will as my "models" for my first maternity shoot.

You may also recognize Liam from his 3 month pictures with the cute Braves hat.

They're back! I believe Liam was 6 or 7 months during this shoot and can you not tell he is head over heels for his Mama? Gotta love a Mama's boy!

Love this sweet family and am excited to capture Liam's milestones in the future.

Brian Emory ~ Senior

Brian was one of my third graders...9 years ago. He and his littlest sister, Macy, along with the rest of their family are amazing people. I'm so glad they have stayed in touch. Seeing the two of them grow up in pictures on their mom's FB timeline is fun, but seeing Brian in person as a grown man was a little shocking. Although he still (kinda) looks the same, I'll never get over seeing my students taller than me. So happy to get to take his pictures for his senior year, and he was the perfect young man. So patient. Not a speck of attitude. Eager to have a conversation. He's the type of young man I hope Finn (my son) grows up to become. Here is his session:

I know he doesn't need a bit of luck to be successful, but wishing you the best in your senior year and beyond, Brian!

The Andersons

Janeen and I taught at the same school together for four years, three years ago. She has two beautiful daughters, one of which is currently at NC State on a full ride. Prior to her leaving for college, her youngest wanted to have some family pictures made.

There is this long, winding road behind my neighborhood that I run to get my "long runs" in. Every time I pass by this field I think about how great it would be to take pictures in. So thankfully the Andersons were willing to have their pictures made wherever I wanted to shoot.

These were taken at Martha's Chapel as well as the field mentioned above on Killian Farm Road.

Here they are!

Thanks, Janeen, for letting me shoot in this location!
